Crayonsmith have garnered our top spot as Irish Band of the Week this August 12th, following the release of their video for new song “Chrysalis” and an epic set at OOAL’s 10th Anniversary gig last weekend.

Crayonsmith are part of the Out On A Limb Records family which you most likely know as home to Windings and the ever-wonderful and sorely missed giveamanakick. Fronted by Ciarán Smith, this band has been impressing us for years but it’s a release from their highly anticipated upcoming album that’s stolen our weekly top spot for them. “Chrysalis” is another of Smith’s skilfully put together synthy pop songs. Somnolent vocals ease their way over slowly building drums, synth arpeggios and a rolling baseline to culminate into a truly hypnotic tune.

Crayonsmith was originally the brainchild of Smith but as of last year, he’s flanked by Richie O’Reilly (Koalacord) and Wayne Dunlea (formerly of Waiting Room & Hooray For Humans).Their forthcoming album “Milk Teeth” is set to be released on LP/Digital on October 18th of this year and we can’t wait for it. It’s the first release with the new line-up and this third album has a lot to live up tom following it’s enthralling predecessor “White Wonder” from 2008. The band are set to play Anseo on Camden Street on the 25th with I Heart the Monster Hero and Percolator from Waterford, so catch them while you can. This band speaks for themselves, so check out the video for “Chrysalis” below:
