Irish Band of the Week: Redwoods

Taking over from last week’s Irish Band of the Week, Crayonsmith are Wicklow natives, Redwoods.

Redwoods are a rock pop quartet hailing from Greystones, Co.Wicklow. They’ve garnered quite a lot of attention with some national airplay, a spot on The Late Late Show and even made it onto our coveted Ones to Watch list! These lads bring a mixture of melodic edgy pop and some impressively well written catchy tunes to the table that just can’t be ignored. Listening to them, it’s hard to stand still. And furthermore you will find yourself somewhat hypnotised by the killer ‘fro on the frontman.

Before we go any further, check out their track Don’t Take Me Down:

The band formed in 2010, racked up over 10,000 hits on Myspace (Yes, Myspace. Remember in 2010 when it turned into a music site?) and started playing sold out shows like they were born for this. In 2012, they self-released a self-recorded EP named “Nowhere to Hide” which was the kickstarter to their radio career. They quickly earned themselves a spot on RTE 2FM‘s playlist, which then catapulted them onto The Late Late Show, wahey!

The band busk in Dingle, which is testament to their onstage energy and confidence. You haven’t met a critical crowd until you’ve busked and it’s paying off for them. The guys have played Indiependence, Castlepalooza, KnockanStockan and the Jack of Diamonds fest, so they’re in high demand this summer. They’re currently working on follow-up tracks to their EP and we can’t wait to hear them.

We managed to catch up with them at KnockanStockan for a chat, so check out our interview below.
