Gavin James – Irish Artist of the Week
This week’s Irish Artist of the Week is the Singer/Songwriter Gavin James. Winner of the 2012 Meteor award for Best Song with his wonderful debut single ‘Say Hello’, the Dublin native has taken the Irish music scene by storm.
Countless gigs across Dublin including the very popular ‘Zodiac Sessions’ presented by Jazz Finnegan in the historic Bruxelles, had got Gavin’s name on everyone’s lips. From recording covers in his living room to most recently supporting James Blunt and fellow Dubs Kodaline in massive sell out shows across Europe, the only way is up for this young starlet. At only 22, Gavin has sold out several headline shows of his own accord including The Academy and having to add second dates to others due to phenomenal demand.
The first I’d heard of Gavin was from a YouTube video of him covering Adele’s ‘Someone Like You’. Instantly his unique voice shone through and you just knew there was more to come. Signed to Believe Records, Gavin’s stock just rises and rises and this summer sees him scattered across Ireland, UK and further afar for a host of sell out shows and festivals. His current EP ‘Remember Me’ encompasses his talents as a songwriter including the beautifully intricate title track and goosebump inducing ‘Lucky’.
