down-with-jazzTemple Bar will be all jazzed up this June bank holiday weekend as the Down With Jazz festival comes to Meeting House Square on 31 May and 1 June.

Harking back to the anti-jazz movement of the 1930’s, the festival is now in it’s third year and this year’s festival will coincide with the release of Ken Loach’s new film ‘Jimmy’s Hall’. The film tells the story of Jimmy Gralton, a communist who ran a jazzy dance hall in Leitrim in the 1930’s much to the displeasure of some of the locals and the church.

Reflecting the diversity of the times we live in, the festival features a wonderfully eclectic line-up. This year that line-up includes Booka Brass Band, DFF, Tommy Halferty, Blue Eyed Hawk and Toot Sweet.

The full line-up is as follows:

Saturday 31 May

Tommy Halferty Trio

OKO

DFF

Booka Brass Band

Alarmist

Sunday 1 June

Umbra

Blue Eyed Hawk

Ensemble Eriu

Toot Sweet

Manden Express

Tickets for each night cost €10 each and there will be an after party in Sweeney’s on Dame Street on the Sunday night.

Check out this playlist of some of the acts involved.
