Able Archer Irish Band of the Week

As I was going through a list of bands for this week’s Irish Band of the Week, I came across a fantastic new EP from a real up and coming band. Dublin band Able Archer really grabbed my attention with their latest release The Trouble with Strangers EP.

The EP opens with a real attention grabber in Ghostmaker. Its heavy guitars and opening screams suck in the listener and hold you there for a rip-roaring three minutes. Next up The Warden takes a different turn with a more melodic relaxed feel to keep those easy listeners happy too. Only Love pops up and hits you from the opening note. A big big song built for those bigger venues with not so subtle hints of the Chilli Peppers. The final track on the EP slows it all down again to a close. Aptly named The Descent, it’s a real drop in intensity from the previous track but the beautiful string mix really intensifies the song by itself, a wonderful closer.

Able Archer will be launching the EP in Whelan’s on Thursday 18th of December from 8pm with tickets only setting you back €5 and special guests on the night, Riot Tapes.
