The Matthews – Irish Band of the Week | Dublin Concerts
An apparent recipe for success over the years has been to set upon your musical journey with one or more of your siblings. From the Gibbs brothers of the Bee Gees to Eddie and Alex of Van Halen to the warring Gallagher brothers of Oasis, there are many pros and cons to this venture. One such band who have taken on this task are Wicklow band, The Matthews, and they are the Dublin Concerts’ Irish Band of the Week.
Max, Art and Jack, each separated by 2 years (21, 19 and 17 respectively) have been playing together as a band for 4 years now. Formerly known as Children of the Son and winning the Hot Press Newcomer of the year awards, the boys decided in late 2014 it was time for a bit of a change.
Now set to release their debut EP LA, which was produced with Warren Huart (Aerosmith), the band have been championed by many figures in the Irish music scene, not least because of lead singer Jack’s superb vocals. A unique style and sound gives The Matthews that little bit of magic.
Describing themselves as Alternative Rock, their previous outing in ‘Do You Really Want Me’ is a slow starter that builds up to a raucous chorus that captures a listener’s attention. It also caught the attention of a wider audience, making it to number 1 in the iTunes Rock Chart upon release.
There are bags of ability and even more potential from The Matthews, and we here at Dublin Concerts can’t wait to hear more from them. You can catch them upstairs in Whelan’s in Dublin on Wednesday June 3rd for what is sure to be a special night. Guaranteed, there will be many people claiming they were there in years to come. Don’t miss out.
Catch the guys on Facebook, Twitter and on their official website.
