Rory Friers's (ASIWYFA) 'Thrash Hat'

Thrash Hat is the new project from Northern Irish musician Rory Friers, best known for his work with post-rockers And So I Watch You From Afar. The project consists of electronic music pieced together both in the studio and on the road, as well as photography and artwork from the Belfast polymath. Following on from the release of ‘Pandaface’ back in August, Friers has made two new tracks, ‘Mend and Make Safe’ and ‘Owkwerd’, available for listening on Soundcloud.

‘Owkwerd’ is an eerie slice of glitchy electronica, mysterious and brooding, it ebbs and flows freely without ever losing its sense of direction. For ‘Mend and Make Safe’ Friers has taken the scissors to one his band’s tracks, scattering the pieces across the studio floor, before carefully piecing them back together to create an uplifting collage of samples which retains, and expands on, the spirit of the original.

Thrash Hat displays a deft touch for sampling and composing electronic music, unsurprising given Friers considerable contribution to the songwriting of ASIWYFA, and these tracks are potentially just the first taste of a bigger release in 2016.
