Tana-gog-unitarian-church-6his Monday, June 3rd, sees another band from the capital claim our top spot as Irish Band of the Week.

Ana Gog are a Dublin-based five-piece led by multi-instrumentalist, and their head songwriter Michael Gallen. Intricate instrumentation and building dramatic melodies are their selling point. Formed from their school and college days, Ana Gog combine flawlessly to make a quintet that creates entirely enthralling tracks.

Ana Gog’s latest album “Making Trails” is a complex combination of piano, drums, bass and a guitar which is often played by bow and distinctive vocals that make for one of the most gripping albums we’ve heard so far this year. Their sound is almost undefinable; folk-inspired and pensive is as close as we’re going to get; it’s simply something you just have to hear for yourself. They are one of few bands on this small isle that can truly say that they have a sound all of their own. They make folk seem fresh; a new interpretation of a genre the Irish music scene is so heavily steeped in.

Hot of the back of their sell out gig at The Unitarian Church, Ana Gog are set to hit the Whelan’s live stage for another must-see performance this Thursday, June 6th.

Check out their song “Hotels” below.
