Blind Yackety at Ones To Watch (photos)
Seven noisy and energetic musicians filled the stage at Whelan’s main venue on Thursday night. Blind Yackety, as you might know them, were one of the twelve bands that played on the second day of Ones To Watch Festival.
Blind Yackety is a constantly evolving eight-piece band, incorporating a myriad of influences, from fifties’ lounge pop to psychedelic, Arabic soul music, to Ennio Morricone-esque climaxes. The sound is spun with multi-layered vocal harmonies, tropical rhythms and spidery guitar, and is at once hypnotic and immediate. Moments of gentle serenity are interrupted by passionate, driving choruses and sudden hopeful impulses. These are songs that call for light in an apparently cold and meaningless modern world.
