Boy Lights Fire @ Academy 2 (photos)
Boy Lights Fire supported White McKenzie at their EP launch concert on Saturday at Academy 2. We’ve never seen them live before, so we were happy to have the chance to take some pictures.
Boy Lights Fire are a three-piece indie band formed in 2009 in Dundalk and currently based in North Dublin. They won the “Best Song” award for “Weatherman” in the 2010 Highway 67 Music Awards. In 2011 Boy Lights Fire have played all over Ireland and Northern Ireland. They have even played twice at Electric Picnic and in 2012 they’ve released two singles: New Scream and Atalanta (see video here).
Their set at The Academy was a very pleasant surprise for us. They were more than just another indie trio. Their music is complex and it is obvious that they write and perform with close attention to details. Just by listening to their tunes you couldn’t guess that it’s just a three member band. The guitar parts are clean and the bass lines are powerful and funky.
Band members:
- George Mercer – Vocals, Guitar
- Mike Daly – Bass, Backing vocals
- Kevin McDonnell – Percussion, Backing Vocals
