Irish Band Of The Week – Fangclub
This week’s Irish Band of the Week are one of the most hotly tipped acts of this year, already being ear marked by MTV as ‘Ones to watch’ and are gearing up to perform this September. Being comprised of Steven King as songwriter & lead guitarist, Kevin Keane on bass, and grunge, Fangclub have gone from strength to strength, developing a unique sound, all the time continuously touring and working. The band have been busy opening for Bully, La Dispute and Nothing But Thieves, while also completing two headline Irish tours and featuring at festivals such CMW Toronto, CMJ New York, Vantastival, Whelan’s Ones To Watch 2015 & YouBloom, not to mention signing a deal with Universal Ireland. Quite a lot of work for three boys from Dublin.
Fangclub will be starting a month-long tour in September throughout the UK as support to Pretty Vicious. It’s pretty impressive to see three lads hailing from Dublin to already be achieving such immense acclaim. Their latest musical release, ‘Loner’, from the EP Bullet Head is an unrelentingly scuzzy, impetuous track with homage elements to Weezer present. There’s a melancholia that is hauntingly enticing and that echoes throughout. There’s catchy riffs and hooks so expect this to be one of your ‘most listened to’ songs once you give it a chance.
Fangclub will be playing the Other Voices Stage at Electric Picnic this September but in the meantime, be sure to check them out the video for ‘Loner’.
