Irish Band of the Week - Go Swim

This week’s Irish Band of the Week are the Belfast four-piece Go Swim. It’s been quite some time since Go Swim gave us a taster of their unique blend of pulsating indie rock. The Belfast foursome arrived on the scene almost two years ago to much critical acclaim; their lively performances managed to secure them a coveted position as support act for the Kaiser Chief’s performance at Feile an Phobail 2014. The band’s unique musical style and stage presence garnered them comparisons to the likes of Foals, Bombay Bicycle Club, or Two Door Cinema Club – providing the masses with classic rock stylings that had hard hitting riffs but with lyrical elegance too.

Their debut EP, Animal, received widespread praise, marking the band as out as ones to watch in the coming years. The title track itself contained a delightful mixture off harmonies, with a shimmer of guitars that carried a sort of retro indie charm. Indeed, it was an EP that held much hope as it managed to reflect the band’s respective musical influences without allowing it to overpower their sound – their style was unique and that was where their brilliance lay.

So after leaving a little musical hole in their fans’ lives for the last year or so, the band are back in a blaze of glory, releasing a snippet of their latest track, ‘Surrender’. They then went on to announce they would be performing A Northern Light at Belfast Empire on 20 February – much to the delight of their ever-growing fan base. One can only hope that this is the start to an amazing 2016 for the band, and that eager fans can expect a release of even more fresh tunes and a gig or two.
