Irish Band Of The Week – Scoops
This week’s Irish Band of the Week is Scoops, a Dublin band comprised of Stephen ‘Scoops’ Cooper (Lead Vocals/Songwriter/Rhythm Guitar), Stephen O’Rourke (Drums, Percussion and Backing Vocals) and Kevin Murphy (Lead Guitar and Backing Vocals). The band spent over six months developing their debut EP, Scenes of Joy, which went on to chart at number two in the Overall Irish iTunes Album Charts second only to the chart topping Adele.
The boys have been relentlessly touring throughout Ireland and further abroad, including the UK, Denmark, Sweden and Germany. At home, the band focused on supporting other great Irish music, working and touring with acts such as Walking on Cars, Hudson Taylor, Hermitage Green, The Academic and Keywest. For them, 2016 has been one of their most eventful year so far, starting out with a sold-out show in Whelan’s to launch Scenes of Joy. The performance was outrageous with the band climbing off the stage, much to fans’ delight, and breaking-out a karaoke style singalong of their best tracks. In the same week, they were given the prestigious and well deserved honour of closing out the 2016 One to Watch 2016 Festival.
Their sound can be described as punk-pop with moments of acoustic brilliance, the boys are about taking personal experiences and making them universally relatable. This is certainly reflected in the response ‘Best of You’, the lead track from their EP, has received, with regular Radio Airplay on many of Ireland’s major Regional Stations such as Beat 102-103, Radio Kerry, KFM, Highland Radio, Shannon side Radio, Classic Hits 4FM, and Dublin City FM.
The success of their debut EP and the reception of several of their tracks have received earmark 2016 to be the most promising yet, and considering their ever-growing fan base in Ireland and abroad (particularly Denmark) these guys definitely deserve a look-in. So if you enjoy lively, anthemic tunes, with the most ridiculously infection hooks, then check Scoops out.
They’ve announced their first headline UK and Ireland tour for April/May/June of 2016 and it seems many venues are nearly sold-out. Scoops play Dublin’s Whelan’s on 4 June.
