Irish Band Of The Week - The Shades

This week’s Irish Band of the Week is The Shades, a hard-working rhythm ‘n’ blues five-piece hailing from the capital. The band take their inspiration from vintage artists such The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, and Chuck Berry. The boys’ aims is to shake up the mainstream music scene with the rawness of classic rock tracks. The emotive vocals, sung against a backdrop of smooth blues just make for perfectly mellow music to shimmy to all night long.

After the band performed at the 2014 Body and Soul festival, they quickly began releasing live music sessions via YouTube, providing an insight in to the considerable talent this group had, as well as garnering those fans throughout Ireland and beyond. By September 2014 they set out on their first tour, which initially began in Ireland before heading across the sea to work their way around key cities such as Manchester and Liverpool.

Returning on a high from this tour encourage them to commence a second tour in February, this time including several Irish radio stations before performing their debut headline show in Dublin’s The Mercantile Venue, which proved to be an immensely successful opening, with the Mercantile at full capacity, delighted at this new set of original rock ‘n’ roll songs. Their live brilliance didn’t go unnoticed and the band were invited to be Paddy Casey’s support act – a coveted role. By October, the band were on the bill supporting Cavan rockers The Strypes at a sell-out event in Dublin.

Only recently the band performed a St Patrick’s Day show in Whelan’s with The Hot Sprockets- earmarking this year as their most successful yet.
