Laura Elizabeth Hughes – Irish Band of the Week
Another Dubliner graces our main page as our Irish Band of the Week and for the first time, it’s a solo artist who has earned the spot.
Laura Elizabeth Hughes is a 22-year old singer-songwriter who rose to fame thanks to Youtube, garnering over one million views on a selection of covers and original songs uploaded while still at school. One always wonders if a Youtube artists originals can ever match up to their covers, especially after Laura so effortlessly made her rendition of Dry The Rivers “Bible Belt” so sensational. However, with Laura Elizabeth, any doubt is entirely overshadowed upon first listen of her debut single.
We at DublinConcerts.ie, first came across this songstress in Whelan’s where she played the support act slot for Americana band The Needables just a short while ago, and we were pretty damn sure we’d seen something special. Her debut single only confirms this. “Fear of Falling” is a song that surely won’t leave your recently played anytime soon. It showcases her skills impeccably and leaves you wanting more than just a debut track.
However, it’s up to the general public and her fans to fund anything more than this debut single. Laura Elizabeth launched a crowdsourcing Fund It campaign to fund an entire debut E.P. and after hearing her live, I guarantee you’ll want to put your hand in your pocket for this songstress. A skilled songwriter, Laura is still a novice on stage, debuting her first headline gig only last week upstairs at Whelan’s. Testament to her talent, Laura Elizabeth packed out the venue and reviews have been nothing but positive. Her vocal range is impressive, her vocals impassioned and ethereal, her lyrical quality breathtaking and with a combination of these qualities, she is entirely arresting.
Laura Elizabeth Hughes is a singer-songwriter that you’d be a fool to overlook. There’s big things in store for this young lady and we here at DublinConcerts.ie await her debut E.P. with considerable anticipation.
