laura-sheeran-whelans-27Laura Sheeran supported Moddi last Wednesday in Whelan’s.

The Galway-native has been gigging in Dublin and around Ireland since 2007. She and her band have released four studio albums so far, the latest, titled “What The World Knows”, was released in April 2012. On April 12th 2013, Laura Sheeran released “Echo”, a 7 track EP available for digital download and hard-copy purchase on Bandcamp.

The set in Whelan’s was without the full band. Laura and guitarist Marc Aubele, plus a bunch of instruments (including a saw) and effects created the mood for Moddi’s set.

Laura Sheeran’s music is dark, eerie, complex and a pleasure to enjoy both live and recorded. It’s not radio-friendly, but something tells me Laura never intended to create dancefloor hits or to top the radio charts. Her tunes are not obscure though. Echo, the track that names her latest EP, was written as a soundtrack for a short film by director Ela Gas.
