Orchid Collective – Irish Band Of The Week
This week’s Irish Band of the Week are Orchid Collective, a Dublin based focusing on alternative/folk rock music. The four piece have been relentlessly touring throughout Ireland for the past year, bringing their unique musical essence to their ever-growing fan base. Their live shows have been noted for their enthralling lyrical approach, layering vocal over vocal to create fresh harmonies that draw the listener in for more. The band’s festival appearances are numerous, including Glasgowbury, Knockanstockan, Rhythm and Roots, Foyle Folk Festival in Derry, while sharing the same bill as the likes of And So I Watch You From Afar, In Their Thousands and the Hot Sprockets the past year has hopefully marked the first of many exciting and fortuitous experiences for them.
Providing further evidence to support the claim that the Irish music scene is churning out some of the best of artists at the moment, their sound draws upon the likes of Villagers and Delorentos for inspiration while adding their own alternative folk twist to it all. Their latest musical release, ‘Lay As Stone’ is a track that wishes to perfectly reflect all the brilliance of the band, with a sophisticated musical depth that are sewn to moments accented beats, before suddenly veering into guitar riffs. The entire single works to emphasise that the band, while still new, are more than capable of creating a post-rock track, enshrined in alternative-folk lyricism – hopefully marking a bright future for the band.
