Redwoods at Whelan’s – Review & Photos

redwoods-whelan's-34Greystones four-piece Redwoods played Upstairs at Whelan’s last night, September 7th 2013.

Redwoods were a perfect choice for a rainy Saturday evening. Whelan’s upstairs venue was cozy and warm thanks to the fireplace and people were relaxed and ready for some good music. The fun started when the first supporting act took to the stage. Dublin band Jack Latin set the mood with their infectious energetic indie tunes. Color//Sound followed with a solid display of quality music, with a mature sound that doesn’t reveal how young the band is. By the way, if you want to catch Color//Sound, they’ll play Whelan’s on September 2013.

As soon as Redwoods started playing, the energy level went up. The four lads seemed relaxed, and confident, probably a result of the many gigs and festivals played this summer. Castlepalooza, Indiependence and KnockanStockan are just some of the appearances under their belt for this year.

Their music sounded better than ever, especially when their fans started singing along.

The “star” of the evening, however… the main reason we all went there, was their new single “Me And My Mates”. We have to admit we were spoiled with a pre-release preview of the song a while ago and it’s been a constant presence in our playlist since. We just love it. The best part is you don’t need to hear it more than once to get it stuck in your head, and we mean that in a very positive way. It’s edgy, a bit different from their usual style, but a fine tune nevertheless. You can buy “Me And My Mates” on iTunes for just $0.99.

Redwoods have a bright future ahead of them and we can’t wait for their next release.
