Single Review: ‘Hello Insanity’ by Riot Tapes

Riot Tapes Hello Insanity

The latest single by Dublin four-piece Riot Tapes is a the perfect antidote for these endless rainy days that pass for the Irish summer. ‘Hello Insanity’ is a chirpy, rumbling electro affair underpinned by a gritty bassline and understated licks. Clocking in at exactly three minutes, the track kicks off at a brisk pace and doesn’t let up, fitting in perfectly with the simple video that the band have put together to accompany the release.

The video basically features vocalist Elaine Doyle running down a country road, fleeing that insanity or maybe she’s embracing it? Either way it’s pretty effective, as are Doyle’s breathy vocals which contain just a hint of Karen O mixed with Emily Haines.

The band have been making waves on the Irish music scene of late, with appearances at youbloom and Summer Watch at Whelan’s under their belts. Next up for the band is Big Viking Picnic in Kells on 29 August and they will be playing here in Dublin in October when they play the Workman’s Club on 8 October.
