The Hot Sprockets win the Play On The Day regional final (photos)
Whelan’s hosted the Play On The Day regional Finals on Thursday night. Play On The Day is a competition for bands that played in pubs around Ireland on September 27th, Arthur’s Day. The competition is organized by HotPress, Guinness and RTE 2 FM.
Four of the best bands in the East of Ireland competed at Whelan’s for a place in the grand final: Stewart Agnew, The Juice, The Hot Sprockets and The Thomas Donoghue Band.
We’ve seen The Hot Sprockets at Jack Of Diamonds Festival in August when they played The Workman’s Club. It was an amazing gig and we were fascinated with tier energy. However, the gig at Whelan’s on Thursday was even better. They rocked a venue packed-full of people, with their guitars, bold drums and harmonica. It seems that the judges were also impressed by their performance, as the five-piece band were declared winners.
As winners of the regional finals, The Hot Sprockets won a recording session to be broadcasted on RTE 2 FM and HotPress.com, an interview with a flip cover in HotPress Magazine and a professional photo session for the cover. They will meet the winners of the other regional finals: The Protobabies, In Their Thousands and the winner of tonight’s regional final, in Whelan’s for the grand final.
