the-statics-hit-a-missAfter a successful 2013 in which their live performances and infectious single Alone cemented their reputation as one of Ireland’s brightest new bands, The Statics kick off 2014 with the release of new single, Hit & Miss.

Taken from their EP Hidden Pigeon; Hit & Miss isn’t quite up there with Alone in the ear worm stakes, but is still a fine song that displays lead singer and songwriter Liam Gardner’s knack for a catchy hook and strong melody. Gardner’s guitar and vocals are complemented throughout the tune by some nice work by lead guitarist Daragh O’Connell, while Thomas Nugent and Jacqueline Campion lay solid foundations on bass and drums respectively without being too showy.

Although the band are treading a well-worn path down the Mersey from Beatles to The Coral via The La’s, the strength of their own song writing allows you to enjoy The Statics on their own merits and not fob them off as mere copyists. These guys cherry pick the best bits from the past and add to them as all good artists should.

Listen to Hit & Miss below.
