The Viking Project – Irish Band of the Week
It has been a long time since I have heard such a raw, old-school rock and roll sound come from a contemporary Irish band… And I can’t get enough of it! With a self described ‘filthy’ folk foundation, this fusion 5 piece hailing from the borders of Wicklow/Dublin are a refreshing and captivating bunch. With the flexibility of four vocalists, The Viking Project are able to create engrossing and swelling harmonies which paired with the bluesy harmonica and a kickin’ rhythm section, create an alluring sound that can’t help, but make you stop and listen to them.
Already seasoned players on the festival scene having played Body and Soul, Knockanstockan, Castlepalooza and the Salty Dog stage at Electric Picnic 2013 to name but a few, surprisingly this quintet are only releasing their debut EP/ mini-album this March.

With such a strong, well built vocal and instrumental foundation, The Viking Project have an organic and electrifying sound that transports you to a different era. I can’t help but see a bright future for this captivating and soulful crew.
They will celebrate the launch of their album with a gig at The Purty Kitchen, Dun Laoghaire, on the 28th of March. For more information on the album release and upcoming tour dates, visit vikingprojectmusic.
