Walking on Cars – Irish Band Of The Week
Taking over from last weeks featured “Irish Band of the Week”, Shadows and Dust, are Dingle-based indie-pop-rockers Walking on Cars.
If you haven’t heard of this bands recent skyrocketing success, then you have evidently been living in as much of an exam-filled hole as I have and trust me, you have been missing out!
In March, the band challenged acts such as One Direction to the top spot for the Paddy’s Day Irish chart number one and placed on the charts as an incredible #4! The band aren’t exactly new to the Irish Music scene, having won the Red Bull Bedroom Jam in 2012. However, it’s the anticipation for their upcoming EP that’s garnered them the top spot as our Irish Band of the Week.
The Kerry five-piece consist of the charmingly raspy vocals of Patrick Sheehy on rhythm guitar, Dan Devane taking charge of lead guitar and backing vocals, the melodic Sorcha Durham on piano, Paul Flannery pulling it all together on bass guitar, and Evan Hadnett with powerful ever-building drums. There’s something gut-wrenching and heartstring-pulling about the musical combination of this quintet, and I mean that in the best of ways. Their sound is indie-rock almost verging on pop, the radio-friendly type that you’ll want to leave on repeat for a few days.
The emotion in their debut single “Catch Me If You Can” is almost palpable and accompanied by an emotionally charged music video by Bold Puppy Productions, it’s no wonder their success has skyrocketed far beyond the humble beginnings of the heart of Kerry’s music scene. The band are a testament to the Independent Irish Music Scene with their chart success and features on Other Voices, Sea Sessions and Indiependence, Ones to Watch, to name a few.
There’s no denying that this Walking on Cars are soon to be snapped up and off to bigger and better things, but for now, we here at DublinConcerts.ie will revel in them being our Irish Band of the Week and keep this charmingly humble yet powerful band on replay.
While you’re here, check out their debut single “Catch Me If You Can” that’s currently available on iTunes. Trust us, you’ll want to buy it.
