‘You’re Dead’ – The New Single & Music Video From Windings
Limerick alt-rockers windings have released a new single, with an accompanying video from director Stephen Boland. The track is called ‘You’re Dead’ and it’s a slow burning taster of the group’s upcoming fourth LP Be Honest and Fear Not, scheduled for release on Friday 30 September via Out On A Limb Records.
After the oft raucous noise-rock unleashed on their last single ‘Helicopters’, ‘You’re Dead’ heralds a more controlled, atmospheric approach from the five-piece. With the song clocking in at just over five minutes, the group are patient as they build a textured sonic backdrop to complement the lead vocal of singer Steve Ryan, who delivers a suitably reserved vocal performance. Though the song veers toward the outskirts of shoegaze in some sections, it always gives itself plenty of room to breathe, utilising multiple guitars and vocal harmonies to evoke a sombre tone.
Melodically, and lyrically, the track elicits a sense of unease with a thematic focus on the subject of death. This downbeat, unsettling tone is accentuated by Stephen Boland’s kaleidoscopic imagery. The music video is a mesh of rotoscoped imagery from old black-and-white films, laced with unnatural colours and a host of visual effects.
Be Honest and Fear Not is set to be released on Friday 30 September, and windings will soon be announcing a handful of live dates in support of this new LP.
