Meteor Choice Music Prize Winners: The Script & The Gloaming

Meteor Choice Music Prize

Thursday night, March 5th, Vicar Street hosted the tenth edition of Meteor Choice Music Prize, celebrating best releases of 2014.

The event included short performances from a stellar lineup with some of the nominees. Kormac, The Minutes, Little Hours, We Cut Corners, The Riptide Movement, James Vincent McMorrow and Delorentos all played, to the delight of the audience.

Kormac’s Big Band, nominated for Song of the Year for his song “Wake Up”, opened the night, followed by the three crazy lads who call themselves The Minutes. Donegal duo Little Hours were the last ones to perform before the first award.

The Song of the Year award went to The Script for their hit “Superheroes”. This award, and the receiver of the €3,000 cheque, was decided entirely by public vote held online over the past few weeks. The Script weren’t there to receive the prize, but the award was presented to them before the ceremony so they delivered their thank-you-message in a short video projected on the stage.

The full list of nominees for Song of the Year:

  • The Coronas – All The Others
  • Delorentos – Show Me Love
  • Hozier – From Eden
  • Kodaline – One Day
  • Kormac – Wake Up
  • Little Hours – It’s Still Love
  • The Minutes – Cherry Bomb
  • Sinead O’ Connor – Take Me To Church

The musical entertainment for the second half of the evening was left to the Album of the Year nominees The Riptide Movement, We Cut Corners, James Vincent McMorrow and Delorentos . The show was stolen by a goosebumps-inducing, solo performance by James Vincent McMorrow who received a standing ovation.
