Le Boom – Irish Band Of The Week
This week’s Irish Band of the Week is the unapologetically cool Le Boom. Comprised of Chris and Aimie, this Dublin based duo are set for big things in the coming year. As well as receiving critical acclaim in Ireland, they’ve already garnered a lot of attention from across the seas in the States with Paste Magazine predicting this to be the next big thing on the electronic-pop scene. To be getting these critical nods from such an array of sources is a huge achievement for such a fledgling band, having only formed in the summer of 2016 but it’s unsurprising, considering what they bring to the table.
One listen will tell you all you need to know about Le Boom – the combination of electronica and pop makes the perfect soundtrack to a night out. The energy is infectious – a shot of caffeine for the soul – with dizzying techno highs, it already establishes Le Boom as not only a notable electronica band but a formidable band overall. However, the band aren’t afraid to experiment either, even more admirable is how they deal with more sombre tracks, ‘What We Do’ is a perfect example. In an interview with Vents Magazine, Chris admitted that the track represented how overwhelmed he felt upon arriving in New York. These deeply personal highs and lows manifest themselves throughout Le Boom’s music demonstrating the band’s undeniable gift for songwriting, dealing with intense emotion but without compromising on their style or being too on the nose. The lyrics, while at time are quite dark, and the techno rhythm manage to culminate in something completely refreshing for listeners.
The band have an amazing year lined up, with a gig coming up in Whelan’s main room on 31 March – it promises to be an absolutely killer show.
