The Ocelots – Irish Band Of The Week
This week’s Irish Band of the Week is The Ocelots. Comprised of Wexford twins, Brandon and Ashley, the pair have garned quite the reputation for themselves with their unique take on folk music.
Laden with robust vocals and harmonics, there is a sound that’s wrought with talent and emotion. It’s an ethereal exercise for the ear, blending classical Irish music with modern musical elements, so noted is their skill that they’ve already performed at several notable Irish music festivals, including Body & Soul, Spirit of Folk, Hard Working Class Heroes and Electric picnic. On top of this, they’ve also performed their eclectic sounds at Whelan’s, Sweeney’s, The Ruby Sessions and Cyprus Avenue.
One of the most admirable talents of The Ocelots, besides their ability to perfectly blend harmonies with harmonica, is their resilient independence. The band perform an independent music trail throughout Europe: Paris, Rome, London, Edinburgh, Munich, Cologne, as well as residencies all throughout Germany, Denmark and Italy. The pair’s devotion to their style has never wavered, and, in fact, the form that they have performed at such an extensive number of venues throughout the globes demonstrates that their talents are undeniable.
After the release of their video performance with Cardinal Sessions in Cologne, the pair’s performance went on to be listed as one of the Top 5 Cardinal Sessions’ bands, as well as receiving critical acclaim at home with nods from the likes of Lovin’ Dublin and Joe.ie.
2017 promises to be a big year for the boys – having returned from some touring of Lisbon and the promise of them launching a five single EP later this year. Until then, check out their beautiful track ‘One More Time’.
